Ministerial Position
Gower Street United Church

Gower Street United Church, located in the heart of downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland, is seeking a full-time Minister. Primary responsibilities will entail leading various key ministries of the Church in addition to exploring new initiatives which will be responsive to evolving needs.

Gower Street United Church, locally known as “Gower”, enjoys a long and distinguished history dating back to 1815 when it was originally established as a Methodist Church. It is highly regarded as a leading religious force of the United Church of Canada within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

St. John’s embodies a rich, cultural history and is regarded as a growing, vibrant cosmopolitan city.

Gower offers a wide range of ministries both to its congregation and the wider community. It is an inclusive church. It is particularly heralded for its ministry of music which continues to evolve and flourish under the guidance of both nationally and internationally renowned leaders. In 2015, Gower adopted a long-term, high-level plan entitled Vision 2025 to help guide the direction of the church’s ministry over the ensuing ten years.

We are seeking energetic and enthusiastic candidates who are able to relate to, and communicate well with, all age groups and backgrounds. Ideally the candidates will have demonstrated leadership ability and a willingness to serve as a catalyst for change. The successful candidate will possess spiritual conviction as evidenced through strong faith in all endeavors.
