United Church of Canada

First Dawn Eastern Edge Regional Council

With joy in our hearts and a song on our lips we,

the Newfoundland and Labrador conference of The United Church of Canada,

believe that we are called by God to love and serve others.

Through our various shared ministries in the name of Jesus Christ,

we are called to uphold the gifts and skills in each other;

to honour differences;

to be accepting of change while honouring heritage and traditions;

to seek justice

and through all of this to know that we are not alone.

Thanks be to God

Fall Learning Event 2019 First Dawn Eastern Edge Regional Council

· Is the church out of touch with what nourishes peoples' spirits?
· Do you wish you had some new ideas to help people get in touch with their faith and feel connected to God in their everyday lives?
· Do you long for the days when different age groups/generations were involved in the life and work of your congregation?
· Do you want to explore strategies for growing the church deeper and wider?

If so, you will want to make sure that you are at the 2019 Fall Learning Event.

Save the Date: October 25-27, 2019
Venue: Fraser Road United Church, Gander, NL
Cost: To be determined

Online registration and more information to follow over the summer months.

Chris Pullenayegem, Coordinator for Faith Formation, General Council Office, will be the coach, discipleship and small group specialist.

2019 First Dawn Eastern Edge Regional Council Clergy Retreat

If you answer “yes” to the following, the 2019 Clergy Retreat may be one that you do not want to miss!

· The only time you read scripture is to prepare for your sermon each week
· You only pray when doing a pastoral visit or leading the prayers during Sunday worship
· Hardly have time to nourish your own spirit and be reminded that you are a much-loved creation

Join us at the First Dawn Eastern Edge Regional Council Fall Clergy Retreat where we will be nourished, renewed and nurtured in faithful practices for our own spirits (and if you learn something that you can share with others, then that's a bonus). We want you to be nurtured as the faithful person you are, not because you are paid to help others be nourished!

Save the Date: October 23-25, 2019
Venue: Lion Max Simms Memorial Camp, Bishop’s Falls, NL
Cost: $200.00

More information and online registration to follow over the summer months.

Thank you.

Dear affirming United Church friends,

Generous Space both works within the church and cultivates vibrant faith community for LGBTQ+ people from many different backgrounds and traditions. We are serving people coast to coast with 30 Generous Space groups running across Canada. Please do read more about us on our website.

I’m excited to share with you that we will be holding our second Generous Space Retreat on the East Coast this summer in St. Stephen, New Brunswick – July 12-14. We have been running annual retreats in Ontario for seven years and in BC for the last three years. Our Generous Space Retreats offer a warm sense of belonging where we are deeply committed to love each other across difference. While we particularly welcome LGBTQ+ people to participate, we gladly open this opportunity to learn to pastors and leaders, family members, and allies of the LGBTQ+ community.

We would like to invite you to consider coming for part of all of the retreat (recognizing that clergy will likely be unable to be with us on Sunday morning) and especially ask that you share this invitation with those in your community who would value the opportunity to connect in this context. The retreat will be held at St. Stephen’s University in St. Stephen, NB and will begin on Friday evening, July 12th. All the details regarding registration can be found here.

 To give you a bit of the flavour of our retreats, check out this brief video. Feel free to show this to/share this with your congregation! We have also attached a poster that we would appreciate you sharing!

About Us

Let your adventure in ministry begin here in the Newfoundland and Labrador Conference. This is the most easterly Conference within The United Church of Canada. A Conference whose borders are the same as the provincial borders. It's a place that Microsoft recognizes as having its own time zone. And why not. It's where the sun rises first. It's the newest province with an incredible past.
