United Church of Canada

Newfoundland and Labrador Conference

With joy in our hearts and a song on our lips we,

the Newfoundland and Labrador conference of The United Church of Canada,

believe that we are called by God to love and serve others.

Through our various shared ministries in the name of Jesus Christ,

we are called to uphold the gifts and skills in each other;

to honour differences;

to be accepting of change while honouring heritage and traditions;

to seek justice

and through all of this to know that we are not alone.

Thanks be to God

Dear First Dawn Eastern Edge Congregations and Clergy,
As we are struggling to understand the violence and hatred in our world and as we see pictures of the horrific attacks in Sri Lanka, we hold our brothers and sisters in Christ in our thoughts and prayers. As they begin the heavy grieve and sadness with the burials of their family members. There are no words just deep sadness and prayer. Please see the message received from Dr. Syed Mansoor Pirzada , President of the Muslim Association of NL and my response. When we stand in solidarity with one another there is hope.

Dear Dr. Pirzada,

Thank you so much for your kindness and for your words of solidarity. In our common humanity, when one of us suffers at the hands of hate, bigotry and violence we all suffer.
The commitment to stand together to promote peace is made even stronger this day. I will share your message with all of our congregations in NL.
In mutual respect and peace,

Rev. Faith March-MacCuish

Subject: Horrific Attacks in Sri Lanks During Easter

Dear Rev. March-MacCuish,

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific attacks in churches and hotels in Sri Lanka during this Easter season that claimed the lives of numerous innocent worshippers.

On behalf of the Muslim Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to our Christian brothers and sisters in humanity residing in our province and beyond.

Taking this opportunity, I would like to confirm again that we stand together with you to confront such hate and bigotry and to promote peace.

 Just wanted to give you an update on this May 2nd event. We are only a week or so away and we have had less than desirable responses for our letters,etc. We will be accepting donations on the night of, however, I don't want us in an embarrassing position that we have some songs without sponsors. We will be reading out names and I want it to have a respectable showing. So if you planning to sponsor a song or encourage others to do so, please get them to Jackie asap, so I can assess our position (752-8957). I really don't want to have to go and beg lol. Attachments in full article.

PS a couple of you have already sent in, so please accept my thanks.

Dear Members of the Pacquet United Church and Clergy (Rev. Donna Hann),

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message to you, a faithful and dedicated congregation of the United Church in Newfoundland and Labrador.

I have watched the news reports as your beautiful building billows smoke and fire. Of course we all know that in our communities, the church is more than a building, it is our spiritual home, a gathering place where we celebrate and grieve together through the passages of life. In our small rural communities, it is the beacon of strength and hope. Please know the whole Region are holding you in our thoughts and prayers today and in the coming days.

As we put our faith and hope in the resurrected Christ, may the way forward become clearer in the next days and months.

About Us

Let your adventure in ministry begin here in the Newfoundland and Labrador Conference. This is the most easterly Conference within The United Church of Canada. A Conference whose borders are the same as the provincial borders. It's a place that Microsoft recognizes as having its own time zone. And why not. It's where the sun rises first. It's the newest province with an incredible past.
